Landfills are a problem

An issue with landfills is the toxic chemicals that are created.  Methane for example is created from decomposing garbage and is a threat to our ecosystem.  The methane will evaporate into the air and go into the ground, threatening our water supply.

By recycling smarter, we can help make the need for more and more landfills smaller.  Think about our future.

Comment of the day

Saw a girl dump a coffee into a recycling bin, she's stupid.

Random Fact of the day

Americans make more than 200 million tons of garbage each year, enough to fill Bush Stadium from top to bottom twice a day!

Wasted Recyclables

This is what happens to contaminated recyclables.  This truck has 12,000lbs of stuff that could have been recycled but instead is going to the landfill to dump it all.

Things not to recycling

Did you know?!

  1. A single plastic bag can shut down an entire material recovery facility if it gets caught in its machinery!
  1. Just 5 grams of drink ware, glass or Pyrex in a recycling bin can contaminate a tonne of bottle and jar glass because it melts at a different temperature!
  1. Paper rotting in landfill produces methane. Recycling paper avoids these emissions. Soiled paper that can’t be recycled can be composted.
